So Many Meanings

October 28, 2009

The labyrinth can mean so many things to so many people.  I suppose that each walk for each person is unique.  That is a lot of uniqueness.

My walk this evening was unique.  It was fun and playful.  I focused on the act of walking.  I appreciated the physicality of the walk.  My speed was at times fast and sometimes slower.  My “accelerator” was moving up and down, in and out.

There can be a special joy in not taking things too seriously at times.  The spiritual journey can become very serious if we let it.  I think we need times when things just aren’t that serious.

May we all remember to play and to play a lot.

Young Love

October 22, 2009

I had the pleasure today of walking a beautiful slate and tile labyrinth on a college campus.  There was a young couple walking with me.  They had probably taken a few moments to walk the labyrinth between classes.  Their presence gave a certain youthful energy to my walk.  It was a dark and rainy day.  The energy of the space and of the youthful community was a special treat and gift.  When the young couple reached the center they held a long embrace and kiss.  It was so sweet and tender.  Then they rushed off to their classes without having the time to walk the path back out from the center.  They only stole a quiet moment.

I wonder if there are times that we do not seek quiet and stillness because we think we do not have the time?  I want to remember that it doesn’t take very much time at all to steal a quiet moment.

I Am the Center

October 18, 2009

What meaning do you find in the center?  It is always fresh and new, isn’t it?

I walked the labyrinth yesterday in community.  It was a wonderful retreat experience beside the water.  I was wanting a fresh experience of the center.

We are all the center.  We are all the hands, ears, eyes, and most definitely, the heart of the divine in our world.  This is our purpose.  This is why we are birthed into this adventurous life.

I am the center, and so are you.

May we each in our own unique way fully wake up and fully realize that we are divine.

The Joy Comes

October 16, 2009

As I walk, the joy comes.

There is joy in the grass, in the wind blowing, in the clouds.  There is joy in the sky.  There is joy in the trees.  There is joy in the rocks as they guide and outline the path.  Ah, and finally, there is joy in my heart.

Thank you for the joy of my surroundings.  Ah, and finally, there is joy in my heart.

A Cool North Wind

September 29, 2009

A cool north wind was at by back this morning as I entered the labyrinth.  The coolness of the morning seemed quite enough of an accompaniment on my journey.  There were not a lot of thoughts that came to consciousness today.

Perhaps the ritual or practice of walking the labyrinth is sometimes enough.  We may come to expect an insight or answer everytime we walk.  Perhaps the wind, the clouds, the damp ground are enough.  The environment is the experience.

May I be open to whatever experience comes when walking the labyrinth.  And, may I be accepting of all experience as just right.
